Splint Brux® cleaning: patient care guide

How to clean, store and care for the Splint Brux® splint, and what to do if it is lost or breaks. A guide to hand to your patients.

Splint Brux® occlusal splint ready to hand to the patient

Care guide for patients with a Splint Brux® occlusal splint. Share it as written or adapt it to your delivery protocol: daily cleaning, storage, and what to do if it is lost or broken.

The splint only protects teeth and muscles if the patient keeps it clean and in good condition. Clear instructions at delivery cut down calls, staining and avoidable replacements.

Daily cleaning

After each use (usually in the morning), the patient should:

  1. Rinse the splint with cold or lukewarm water (never hot: heat can warp the resin).
  2. Apply neutral soap, without strong fragrances or dyes.
  3. Brush with a soft-bristle brush reserved for the splint (not their regular toothbrush).
  4. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cloth or absorbent paper.

Soft brush for cleaning an occlusal splint

This step removes saliva, plaque and debris that cause odour and biofilm.

Deep clean (once a week)

For a fuller clean, use effervescent tablets made for dental appliances (pharmacy):

  1. Fill a glass with lukewarm water.
  2. Dissolve one cleaning tablet.
  3. Soak the splint for 10–20 minutes, until the product colour fades.
  4. Rinse with clean water, dry completely and store in the ventilated case.

These tablets reach areas brushing misses, without scratching the material when used as the manufacturer directs.

How to store the splint

Case and Splint Brux® for correct storage

Splint Brux® resin is photosensitive: intense or direct light can change its colour.

  • Always store it in the dry case.
  • Keep it away from sunlight, open shelves and strong lights.
  • Do not expose it to heat (radiators, microwave, hot water, dishwasher).

Good storage extends service life and keeps the transparent look.

What the patient should not do

  • Toothpaste: abrasive; scratches the surface.
  • Alcohol, mouth rinses, vinegar or other aggressive chemicals.
  • Hot water, microwave or dishwasher.
  • Leaving it out of the case or in the sun.

If it is lost or broken

If the patient loses or breaks the splint, they should contact the clinic, not the laboratory.

Smileep keeps the digital scan and approved design: you can order a replacement without repeating the scan. Clinical follow-up stays in your practice, and the patient receives a replica that matches the original case.

FAQ

How do you clean a Splint Brux® splint?

Wash the splint daily with cold or lukewarm water and neutral soap, using a soft-bristle brush kept only for the splint. Once a week, deep-clean with effervescent tablets for dental appliances. Do not use toothpaste or harsh products.

Can patients use toothpaste or alcohol to clean the splint?

No. Toothpaste is abrasive and can scratch the surface. Alcohol, mouth rinses, vinegar and other aggressive chemicals can damage the resin. Use only neutral soap or tablets made for dental appliances.

Why does the splint change colour?

The resin is photosensitive: intense or direct light can alter its shade. Always store it in the dry case, away from sunlight and heat sources.

What if the patient loses or breaks the splint?

They should contact the clinic. Because the lab keeps the scan and approved design, you can order a replacement without repeating the scan. The patient should not contact the laboratory directly.
